For SCORE to provide children and youth in the communities with valuable skills and lessons they need to succeed in life we rely on the support of volunteers. Giving kids the opportunity to participate in sports and learn new sports, to keep them off the streets and away from violence, drugs and peer pressure is an essential part of our work.

  Why Volunteer?

Through sports and our life skills training, children and youth grow their self-confidence and learn about healthy lifestyle choices, to work as a team, and to learn from and support each other, and will hence become role models for the next generation of kids in their communities.

The children will benefit from your skills, experience and companionship as you become a role model for them and share your enthusiasm for sports related activities. Volunteering with SCORE means developing friendships, gaining valuable skills and authentic cultural experiences by living and working in a community. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that is absolutely priceless and will stay with you all your life.

As a volunteer you can support our sports programs in schools and at after school clubs in the townships and communities we work in. You can be a coach in the sports we currently focus on: Football, Volleyball, Netball, Basketball, Handball, Fitness, Yoga, Hockey and Tennis. We are always happy to introduce a new sport – so bring your skills and knowledge.

  Why You?

As a volunteer you can support our sports programs in schools and at after school clubs in the townships and communities we work in. You can be a coach in the sports we currently focus on: Football, Volleyball, Netball, Basketball, Handball, Fitness, Yoga, Hockey and Tennis. We are always happy to introduce a new sport – so bring on your skills and knowledge.

If you are an enthusiastic and hands on personality that likes to take initiative with a real passion for sports, we are looking for you. You will lead sports sessions, develop new sports initiatives and create fun programs that improve the children’s physical abilities as well as encourage their thinking, team spirit and confidence. Also your skills in sport administration, marketing, communications or sponsorship/ fundraising, and teaching are appreciated - there is a meaningful position for you.

Depending on the length of your stay your tasks in the communities will differ. If you are volunteering for six or twelve months, you will have the opportunity to build strong relationships within the community, and make a long-lasting contribution with focus on capacity building through coaching, teaching, and mentoring.

The four and eight-week programs also make a significant impact. The children and sport leaders appreciate the time, attention and skills you share with them through cultural exchange, sport skills exchange and experiential learning.

So, no matter how long you stay with us: inspire change - within the communities and within yourself.

  Volunteer Programs

We offer different volunteer programs that focus on the needs of the communities we work with. For you, that means no matter how much time you would like to dedicate to volunteering with us, we will find the right program for you.

Volunteers commit to a four weekeight weeksix month or one year term and will take part in an initial orientation program, which includes local language learning, cross-cultural awareness, community development theory, SCORE program information, as well as teaching and coaching methods.

Our Volunteer program manager will arrange for a phone or skype call so we can get to know each other. When accepted for the program, it is time to pay your deposit, so that your place is secured, to get excited, start planning and look forward to one of the best times of your life.

  Costs

Volunteers are required to pay a program fee. This fee is updated regularly and differs according to the volunteers’ home country (South African/Namibian or International) and the duration of service. Upon acceptance of your application a deposit fee of 300 € / £ 230 is due for payment which will then be deducted from the overall program fee.
After your application is excepted and the deposit is paid, you will receive your pre-departure information package which will keep you busy for a while – enjoy reading about our work, the history and cultural background of Southern Africa, and most importantly your future volunteer assignment with SCORE.

Why pay:
Now, you might wonder why you have to pay to become a volunteer, supporting us with your manpower, skills and knowledge. It costs money to plan, execute and promote a professional volunteer program. With your fees, we provide the structure, support and environment for you to apply your skills in practice. We also provide you with training and skills development (similar to an internship) that will allow you to grow and that will look fantastic on your resume. And don’t forget about the cultural immersion – an experience no vacation can offer. A portion of your fee will also help us to sustain our organisation and continue building strong relationships within our communities.

  How We Support You
