Scoring for social change
![]() | The Cup of Heroes is SCORE's flagship Sport and Development competition. Multi-skilled community youth teams compete in activities off and on the field, scoring points not only from goals, but also for their commitment to social transformation in their communities and for using sport as a tool to empower themselves and others. |

The Cup of Heroes banner
The new Cup of Heroes logo was officially launched at the International Cup of Heroes 2010 competition, held from 24-26 September at Transnet's Esselen Park, Johannesburg.

Introduction
The competition was officially piloted in the Eastern Cape in October 2007. Ten teams participated, exceeding initial goals and expectations and clearly demonstrating the potential of this 'scoring for social change' competition formula.
In 2008, as community interest and excitement grew, a qualifying competition was added at a regional level. The Cup of Heroes grew from a national to an international competition as a youth team from Namibia was invited to participate. The competition was held in September 2008 in Pretoria at the University of Pretoria and Loftus Versfeld.
The past two years (2009 and 2010) have been held at Transnet’s Esselen Park in Johannesburg. The competition usually takes place around the South African Public Holiday celebrating Heritage Day in September.
The Cup of Heroes brings together players from across Southern Africa to celebrate the power of sport and to showcase how they use the skills they have learned through sport to develop themselves and their community.
