But I am from that background, and I want to be a role model and show people that if you are willing to be committed, then you can achieve anything. I am where I am today, because of my willingness and commitment.”

At seventeen, Lorrise Kotlolo is an award winning sportswoman and student. After leaving her family home in Peddie, Limpopo, she gained a place at a school in Johannesburg, where she became involved with SCORE through the Bid Vits soccer programme – a project that started in Hillbrow in May 2009.

“Sport is making a difference in my life and in my community. I feel privileged to be part of SCORE,” she said.

Through the Cup of Heroes programme, Lorrise visits shelters, helping with the preparation of food and handing out clothes, she believes, “Through Cup of Heroes, I am exposed to more of the community I live, and I want to help. When I see people suffering, I am also suffering.” Pledging to continue volunteering at the shelter, “I will definitely continue! It is important to be involved in your community, whether through sports or volunteering.”
