comVol_Mohodi_ignatius_300"In our community we have seen change. Children are growing up in the (sports) fields, and not the street. Without SCORE I wouldn’t be here today, I would have left soccer for the street.”

Out of curiosity, Ignecious decided to go to the sports field, because there was no one on the streets. Whilst he was playing, he was approached by a leader from SCORE and asked to join the Cup of Heroes team. He is still involved SCORE and now helping others change their lives.

“I used to be on the streets,” Ignecious explains, “Until I joined SCORE. Since then I no longer wonder the streets or steal things.” Now Ignecious is part of a team that target children most vulnerable to making the wrong decisions, “we want to help people so that they grow up to make the right choices and not break the law,” he adds.

“At first, children are shy, but they listen to what you have to tell them and appreciate our help,” he said. “If you give them a project, they will do well.” This is where the Cup of Heroes programme allows participating youth to take ownership on their project. By undertaking research and presenting it. This year Ignecious spearheaded research for the team’s partner country presentation on The United States of America. “Through not just sport I have improved myself. Now I can communicate to people on different levels.”

In the year 2010, one can be forgiven for thinking that football is the only sport to attract mass participation, but Mohodi offer many sports outside of the traditional football and netball, with coaches proficient in other less traditional sports such as cricket and basketball.
