adidas & SCORE - Coaching Camp July 2016

On July 7, SCORE welcomed 12 volunteers from adidas Headquarters for a 12-day Coaching Camp in the Western Cape.

SCORE’s ongoing partnership with the adidas Fund is the foundation for the Coaching Camp that is taking place in our Community Sport Centres in both Mbekweni and Franschhoek.

The adidas volunteers were working with 70 community sports leaders from around the Western Cape SCORE communities, namely Mbekweni, Dysselsdorp, Khayelitsha & Franschhoek, and also from Eastern SCORE Communities from Sterkspruit, Ntabethemba and Indwe communities

From 8 July to 18 July 2016, the Coaching Camp was taking place and focused on giving capacity building and sports coaching sessions.

In the capacity building sessions, SCORE’s Young Leaders learned about environmental issues, effective communication and event planning. The afternoon sessions were focusing on sports and sports coaching, like Badminton, Tennis, Basketball, Rugby, Dance, football as well as arts and crafts.

Learning from each other and developing different skills quickly helped to form one big team, and additional activities – such as hiking in the mountains, homestays, cultural evenings and community clean ups – made the experience whole.

We are working on making this world a better place through sport – adidas and SCORE together.

I was responsible for the set-up of the venue for the Capacity building sessions everyday in addition to being part of it. I learned how to do plan and organise an event for the first time and the skills that I have gained was truly immeasurable.  I also gained more knowledge about littering and that if we don’t do something about it now, the problem will escalate and it will affect the generations to come. This has truly been a remarkable experience for me and I am inspired to be the change in my community

— Bernard Moses, Young Leader from Franschhoek

I've learned a lot from the camp. I attended the effective communication course and there were a lot of things I didn’t know like how to prepare a speech and how to present it in the public domain. The two community sport centres also learned how to work TOGETHER AS ONE!  I made a lot of friends and met new people. I also learned about the different cultures within South Africa. GREAT EXPERIENCE, without a doubt!

— Anastacia Juries, Young Leader from Franschhoek
