SCORE Namibia hosts its 3rd SCORE coaching camp with ADIDAS

Between the 25th of February – 7th of March 2016, SCORE Namibia hosted 12 adidas volunteers from Germany and South Africa. Furthermore, 12 chosen volunteers from SCORE’s flagship program The Namibia Volunteer Involvement Programme (NAM-VIP), two from each of SCORE Namibia’s communities, joined the coaching camp in Oshakati.

The volunteers came from the following communities: Kayengona, Keetmanshoop, Mariental, Oshakati, Rundu, and Windhoek. Every day, capacity building workshops and sport activities were conducted to support the development of our volunteers. During the morning sessions, adidas volunteers facilitated a different themed session including volunteerism, community services like raising environmental awareness, project planning, sport event planning, marketing & PR as well as fundraising in communities. In the afternoons, sport activities at the Oshakati Independence Stadium for more than 200 kids were organized.

The adidas and 30 NAM-VIP volunteers worked hand in hand to coach the participants in badminton, football, netball, rugby, volleyball, yoga as well as fun games. Furthermore, painting activities as well as practical sessions on keeping the environment clean were offered. Organizing a big sports festival, where more than 200 kids participated in football, netball, rugby and volleyball, completed the coaching camp. Four teams per sport code were competing and the winners were honored at an award ceremony. The participants and also all volunteers had a lot of fun and built close relationships.

It was a full success. To show our guests from Germany and South Africa some of Namibia’s culture different activities took place. Some adidas volunteers stayed for one night at some NAM-VIP volunteers’ homesteads in a typical Ovambo village. Ovambos form the largest tribe in Namibia, which are mainly found in the North like in the area of Oshakati. Also, a traditional dinner was organized as well as a tour to the cultural village of Ongula to display some of the traditions of Ovambos.

The whole camp left for everybody wonderful, exceptional, and long lasting memories. We are looking forward to SCORE’s next coaching camp in 2017!
