About the campaign

The South African NGO sector is facing many challenges. A struggling global economy, changing donor priorities and funding trends, and a general lack of appreciation for the work of the sector, are all factors impacting on the activities and sustainability of the sector.

Recognising this, SANGONeT’s Executive Director, David Barnard, will run 250km in 7 days through the Sahara Desert from 2-8 October 2011 as part of the 2011 SANGONeT "No Pain No Gain" fundraising campaign to raise money and support for SANGONeT and four other NGOs at the forefront of development and community work in South Africa. These include SCORE, The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT), Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and Starfish Greathearts Foundation.  

There is no gain without pain, and David's participation and ultimate completion of the Sahara Race gives real meaning to the campaign slogan - “No Pain, No Gain”.

Money raised during the campaign will be shared equally between the five organisations and enable them to strengthen and support their core activities.
