SCORE
has two recruiting offices looking after the needs of potential, new and
ex-SCORE volunteers.
The South African Office is run from the organisation's head office in
Green Point, Cape Town by Betty Lallie who serves the needs of volunteers
from African countries.
The foreign
recruiting office is run by Claudia Makumbe in The Netherlands with the
assistance of a network of ex-SCORE volunteers in other countries.

BECOMING A VOLUNTEER |
Qualifications
·
Minimum age, 20 years
· A high school graduation
· A degree in PE, Sports Coaching, Anthropology, Sociology, Development
Studies or any other relevant and related field of study
· Experience in teaching, coaching or organising sport
· Interest in learning and working with people from other cultures
· Flexibility, initiative and enthusiasm
· Participation fee
Physical Education, Human Movement Studies and/or Sports students or graduates
are particularly encouraged to apply, as are candidates with experience
in related fields.
Duration
of Service
Volunteers commit to either a six month or preferably a one year term.
Terms begin in either January or July. Volunteers take part in an initial
2-3 week orientation program, which includes local language learning,
cross-cultural, and community development awareness, and teaching and
coaching instruction.
Financial
Considerations
For
foreign volunteers:
· Six month participation fee for foreigners from Canada, USA,
Asia and Australia is 2 500 EURO ( flight and insurance are excluded)
. Six month participation fee for foreigners from Europe is 2 500 EURO
(flight and insurance are excluded)
· One year participation fee is 3 500 EURO ( flight and insurance
are excluded)
For
South African volunteers:
· Six month participation fee is R1 500
The
participation fee covers room and board, work-related travel, orientation,
a nominal monthly stipend and volunteer support throughout your stay.
Financial assistance is available to applicants who qualify.

If
you are interested, you need to submit a completed application form, curriculum
vitae, 2 reference letters and 2 passport photos. Applications to join
the team in January are due by the 1st of October, applications for a
July position are due by the 1st of April.
- Anyone
interested in becoming a SCORE volunteer can request an information
pack and application form from one of the recruiting offices at the
address below.

- You will
receive confirmation that your application has been received, if not
please contact the Head Office.
If it is found that your application does not meet our minimum requirements,
you will be notified that your application was not successful.
Successful applicants will be notified of the neccessary arrangements
for selection.
- Applicants
are invited to attend a selection day where their coaching and facilitation
skills are evaluated and they are interviewed by SCORE staff.
- If selected
following the selection day, applicants will receive a letter of appointment
alternatively they will be informed that their application was not successful.
Successful applicants will be requested to pay a 10% deposite of their
participation fee.
- Newly
appointed volunteers will then receive confirmation of receipt of the
participation fee deposit.
- Newly
appointed volunteers will receive all volunteer handbooks, documentation
and forms required for their preparation for General Orientation. Foreign
volunteers attend a predeparture course about one month after selection
and 6 weeks before departure. South African volunteers attend a pre-orientation
course just prior to the General Orientation.
- The balance
of the participation fee, 90%, must be paid in full no less than one
month prior to departure for General Orientation near Cape Town.
- Volunteers
will receive confirmation of receipt of payment of the balance of the
participation fee.
